Calling All Photographers!

David and I put together a fun little challenge to kick start your creativity. It’ll be a fun way to step out of your comfort zone and grow your photo skills. Plus, you’ll have a chance to check out YOUR work and see OTHER PEOPLE’S work, and chat, and make friends on our online gallery after June 10th (the deadline).

It’s been said that photographers are painters in a hurry. Or, we’re painters with ADD.

You get the picture.

Shannon and I thought it would be a fun challenge if we embraced the whole photographer’s are similar to painters thing, and tried to create painterly images only using your camera. That means no fancy apps or software to change a regular photo into a painting.

How the heck do I create a painterly image in camera?

It’s really easy. I mean, making an image look like a painting is easy, but the challenge is nailing the composition. These are 2 techniques thad we use to create painterly images in camera:

  • Switch to manual focus and shoot out of focus on purpose
  • Use a slow shutter speed and move the camera while the sensor is exposed.
