The news these days is rough, but it’s important to remember that dark days are when we need to shine our lights the most, to bring some good back into the world. ❤

There is never a wrong time to show kindness, be empathetic, and help others. I encourage all of you to look into your hearts, and think about what you can do to help the world be a brighter, better, safer place. It’s when we come together with love and the mentality that we can make a difference that we start to see positive change in the world.

I know, I know….it’s a weird crop. But this is art dangit, and I do what I want. Also, I didn’t think cropping this one down did it justice.

Anyway, this is sunset over “Connery Pond” in the Adirondacks ….when you read it, your inside voice needs to have a Scottish accent, and add “Sean Connery” somewhere into the mix. Then you need to google the old Celebrity Jeopardy episodes of SNL and laugh uproariously. Look, I don’t make the rules, eh? (Oh, yeah, I do. 😂)

Sometimes, to make a photo outing work with the conditions you’re given, you have to think outside of the box a bit.  I hit the road thinking I’d create a wide-angle landscape shot and ended up striking gold with this intimate landscape instead.

Last month our students focused on minimalism, so the idea of simplifying has been on my mind. This particular sunset, the sky was sort’ve “blah” but the reflecting color was so damn purty. ❤

Well, the New Hampshire workshop page is ‘live’, anyway. And much less spooky than Frankenstein. ::-)

In fact, of all of the ways we hope you describe our workshops…spooky isn’t one of the words we hope you choose. Lol We are shooting (heh…camera joke) for fun, informative, super-awesome-rad and since we can’t predict the weather this far out…sunny.

Now, we do have an early bird special going on for those of you who already know you want to make a trek to the White Mountains of New Hampshire this fall. You know…beautiful mountainous views….New England fall foliage…great hikes…waterfalls…

 

What I’m saying is, the White Mountains in autumn are incredible. You should plan to be there the weekend of September 26. And while you’re there, you should attend our workshop. 🙂

With all of the controversy surrounding the Keystone pipeline, it’s easy to find articles both for and against.  Today, I read one such article that pretty much infuriated me.  For the sake of not poking the bear, I’ll gloss over the details of the balance between money and human rights, but I will say that it – in part – also had to do with the impact of industrial ventures on the environment, and by extension, the people and animals that live there.

It was a strong reminder to appreciate views like this sunset over Cherry Pond in New Hampshire.  The property is just stunning with one beautiful and tranquil view after another.  David and I spent a few hours there and saw only a handful of other people in the parking lot – none on the trails.  I’m so grateful that I live in a region of the country with so much green space, and specifically, I’m glad for the partnership between the Audubon, the state of New Hampshire and the US Fish/Wildlife Service that preserved the Pondicherry Refuge space.  We are already planning a return trip for next year….perhaps you’ll join us? 🙂

Still Reflections, Winter’s Breath

Reflection

It’s 6 degrees out, this morning.  We had some snow fall last night.  The roads are slippery and a bit dangerous…but the woods?  They’re perfect.

New England’s snowy skies rarely have much in the way of interest or detail, despite this being taken close to the end of the day.  There was no color, only leaden gray mixed with spots of white.  There were a few hints of yellow-brown on the trees, and some red silt at the edges of the water near the shallows…but rather than act as an accent, it seemed distracting.  I decided to black and white it.

The view, overall, is pretty standard for winter around here but the thing that attracted me to this particular scene is the solid reflection and the natural leading line it created from the corner of the frame.  Since I tend to be a symmetry person, I really wanted to wade into the center of the slow-moving winter stream and re-compose, but I didn’t have waterproof boots or waders.  Also, just outside of the frame where I would have stood, was a dangerous slippery spot that would have tumbled me down a little set of cascades.  haha  Hypothermia is a maybe, but ruining my camera is a definite no.
