This is one of two lighthouses on the island, which we arrived at just a half hour before the ferry left for the mainland. In otherwords, we literally had 15 minutes to see the place. haha
South Lighthouse – Block Island
The structure has quite a history – it was built in 1874 and at one point, it had to be moved back from the cliffs because (due to erosion) it was going to tumble into the ocean! Safely tucked back from the edge now, it continues to stand solidly, keeping watch over the rocky bluffs. You can read up on the lighthouse here.
